Analysts urge Packers to make blockbuster trade with Commanders

The Green Bay Packers have done an excellent job this offseason filling gaps on their roster. After a surprisingly good 2023 campaign, which included a playoff victory, the Green and Gold are looking to build upon that in 2024.

This has already been an eventful offseason for the Packers, who were aggressive early in free agency. They made a big splash on each side of the ball, signing running back Josh Jacobs away from the Las Vegas Raiders and safety Xavier McKinney away from the New York Giants.

Both will be integral to the team’s success for those units. Running back wasn’t a huge hole, but after some lackluster production on the ground in 2023, the front office felt some changes were needed.

Safety has been a glaring issue for the Green Bay Packers for years. McKinney will shore things up in the backfield, along with the three players the team selected in the 2024 NFL Draft: Javon Bullard, Evan Williams and Kitan Oladapo.

Where else could the Packers look to upgrade during this offseason? According to Bleacher Report's scouting department, defensive line is one of their biggest remaining needs. To fill that need, a trade for Jonathan Allen of the Washington Commanders has been suggested.

“After ranking just 23rd in rushing yards allowed last season, the Packers should look to strengthen their defensive front. Few quality defensive tackles remain unsigned, so making a trade offer for Washington’s Jonathan Allen could be Green Bay’s best option,” per Bleacher Report.

With a new regime in place in Washington, every player could be on the chopping block. Allen has been very productive in his tenure with the franchise, but the team added Jer’Zhan Newton with their second-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

With Daron Payne receiving a massive contract in the 2023 offseason, could Allen be expendable? It would be worth at least a phone call for the Green Bay Packers to see if the first-round pick in 2017 is available and what it could cost to acquire him.
